Located just 5 minutes walk from the resort, SORC is the largest and oldest Orang Utan rehabilitation centre in the world. Witness the twice daily feeding of the Orang Utan and learn more about this magnificent animal. They are the 3rd closest animal to human and share a 96.4% genes same as us. Don’t forget to visit the Outdoor Nursery where you can see the younger Orang Utan training in their jungle gym.
BSBCC is another awesome destination that is located just 5 minutes walk from the resort and it is next to SORC. BSBCC is home to the smallest bear in the world. It is really amazing to be able to see them in their natural habitat. They are also the most arboreal bear in the world. Look out for them up on a tree!
RDC is one of the best spot in Sabah for birdwatching as it has a beautiful 620m Skywalk. Because of its height (between 20 to 29m), you are on the same height with many trees and have the best aerial view of the rainforest. With many trails available, pick the one that could lead you find Sepilok Giant and Monster Kabili. They are 2 of the oldest and biggest tree in the area. Talk about living up to 1000 years old.
An overnight stay is a must so that you can participate and experience the whole turtle conservation program on the island. From witnessing the mother turtle laying eggs to visiting the hatchery farm to releasing the baby turtles to the sea, everything happens at night. During the day, you can relax, snorkel and sun bathe by the beach. You may spot some turtles too!
According to WWF, it has the highest concentration of wildlife in South East Asia. It has 10 species of primates, all 8 species of hornbill in Borneo, Orang Utan, Bornean Pygmy Elephants and many more. River cruising is the main activity and staying overnight and exploring the night walk at the friendly Bilit Adventure Lodge is highly recommended. Go visit the longest river in Sabah at 560km and you will never regret it.
This is the largest limestone cave in Sabah and home to millions of swiftlets and bats. WWF accredited it to be world’s best managed edible bird nest cave. For those who want to overcome the fear of cockroaches, this will be a good challenge for you. It is not surprising to be greeted by Orang Utan and red leaf monkey in the area.
Perfect location for anyone who wants to take close up photo of the “Biggest Nose of Borneo”. Sometimes, you may even get to take a selfie with them. Their big nose can grow up to 10cm and it is used to attract females. The males are known to have 24 hours erection and they have 9 stomachs!
A very informative and beautiful memorial to remember those who suffered during World War 2. Every year, ANZAC Day is held in this memorial. If you want to know more about the World War 2 and the history, this place is for you.
It is the most beautiful and oldest stone church building in Sabah. The amazing 2500 pieces of stained glass were imported from Australia and installed in the church on April 2005.
Agnes Keith was an American author who was married to a British official Harry Keith, in charge of forest conservation in Sandakan. This museum was their residence and was restored and opened to public. Catch a glimpse of their lives before, during and after World War 2 in this museum.
Located up on a hill, it has a bird’s-eye view of Sandakan, overlooking Sandakan Bay and Sulu Sea. You will be amazed by the decoration and cleanliness inside the temple. You have to see it yourself. No words can describe it.
Take a slow walk inside this market and you will find the freshest ingredients to prepare a meal. The highlight is the wet market where you can find all kind of seafood. You may also find some local seasonal fruits too such as the jackfruit, the biggest fruit in the world that can weigh up to 40kg!
